Sister Nivedita, Her First Girls’ school in Calcutta

28 January 1898 was a Golden day for Indian history, When she arrived in Calcutta, (Now Kolkata)  India for the first time and touched our soil. Today when we talk about “Woman Education” & “Woman Power”, we must know she did the same, more than 100 years back for us. She is “Margaret Elizabeth Noble” and for the Indian she is Sister Nivedita (Meaning of Nivedita “Dedicated to God”). She met with Swami Vivekananda in 1895 in London and Swamiji gave her the name “Nivedita”. She was inspired by Swami Vivekananda and traveled to Calcutta (Kolkata, India). On 13th November 1898, auspicious day of Kalipuja (Dewali) she started her first school for girls in Bagbazar, Calcutta (Kolkata, India). She devoted her entire life for the poor and She died on 13 October 1911 in Darjeeling (West Bengal, India).

The Girls School she started, It is still there and now it is under renovation.
