Wikipedia Takes Kolkata 3 – Photowalk

“Country roads take me home “ a beautiful song by Denver started playing. oh don’t be confused. I am not writing anything about music, actually, my cell phone rang. I got a call from Sumit on 21st Feb evening. He told me that he already sent me an invitation in Facebook for Wikipedia/Wikimedia photo walk event and would like to confirm whether I am interested or not? Without going into any further details I said when it’s about photography, I will be there. After a little bit of discussion with Sumit, I disconnected the call and called immediately to Samrat to confirm whether he is interested to participate in the event or not, answer from the other side was yes. Just a single day left for the event for the study about those locations covered in Photowalk. So after finishing all my professional work for Saturday, I started referring few books about Kolkata (Calcutta).

Early morning 23rd Feb 2014 I woke up at 5’o clock and Ohhh it was tough for a lazy man like me. After finishing a few important daily rituals!!! Hahaha!!! I took my camera with accessories and packed some dry food cause I avoid street food along with Water, Cap etc. I was ready to move. Throughout, my wife helped me a lot, without her support I can’t pursue my passions.
As rendezvous was Maniktala (Kolkata North) crossing and we reached there sharp 6:30 am. After the session about Wikimedia Commons, finally started the walk and everybody listened to it carefully. Representatives from Wikimedia collected the information from the participants for further communication. Before I start, would like to mention the name of the places photographed during the walk.

It was an enriching experience for me. After visiting a few mentioned places, time for a little bit of rest along with the breakfast. As Kachuri (Most popular item for Bengali breakfast) was finalized for the breakfast and as usual I had a banana for breakfast. Again we had started our journey to visit remaining spots. Prior, it was scheduled 3 hours photo walks and expected to be an end-around 9:30 Am but at last, when we left our last spot Belgachia Rajbari it was 1 PM.
It was an enriching experience for me and opens new avenues to Wikipedia/Wikimedia. I make few friends through this event and now we are connected via Facebook and a few days later, a news was published regarding the same on a leading Bengali newspaper.
