Wikipedia is so dynamic in true sense and those who are associated with Wikipedia they are also very dynamic. Wikipedia Kolkata Chapter proved the same yesterday. Wikipedia Kolkata Chapter and Oxford Book Store jointly organized a workshop #Wikilearnopedia on 23rd August 2015 at Oxford Bookstore,Kolkata. Attended the event along with Sumit Surai. This workshop was intended to attract more and more people to contribute to Wikipedia. To have new Wikipedians, this kind of initiative is very much required. Being a contributor to Wikipedia, I must thank the authority of Oxford bookstore for providing the venue to Wikipedia Kolkata Chapter and as well as the hospitality they provided during the workshop. It was really good. Taking part in any Wikipedia Event is always an exuberant experience and yesterday it was like an get together for me.
The topics of the workshop was really unique and helpful for new Wikipedians. Topics like creating a new article in Wikipedia, how to give references to an article and uploading images in Wikipedia Commons were nicely explained by Rangan Datta. Second part of the session was nicely took over by Santanu Chandra and Sujay Chandra on Wikitionary and Wikisource. What I have found interesting in the whole workshop, the involvements of new participants are commendable and participation of women has raised to some extent. This workshop was grand success and to make it grand success the efforts of Wikipedians of Kolkata chapter are commendable.
Some people worked so hard to make it happened and I would like to mention some of them, Sukanta Pal for providing Tech-Support, Santanu Chandra, Sujay Chandra, Kalyan Sarkar,Rangan Datta and photographer Biswarup Ganguli and special thanks to Subhadip Mukherjee. I know Subhadip Mukherjee for more than one year because I read Subhadip’s blog regularly. He is one of my favorite blogger and indeed he is an excellent travel blogger. But meeting him for the first time and was indeed a nice moment for me. Actually he is also an official part of Oxford Bookstore. Eminent journalist Gautam Basu Mallick was there and his impromptu speech on improving quality of Wikipedia Articles was excellent.
It was really a good initiative taken by Wikipedia Kolkata Chapter and Oxford Bookstore and I am really looking forward for such events in future.
