I don’t know why we are so reluctant to preserve our heritages. Few months back during a photowalk around Chitpur Road (Kolkata, West Bengal, India), I found Mayo Hospital Dispensary. I have gone through many books to collect information but could not get any information about Mayo Hospital Dispensary. Now Mayo Hospital Dispensary is completely demolished.
From the plaques of the building, I gathered few Information. It was established in 1841 and Re-Build in 1936, renamed as Nayan Krishna Saha Charitable Dispensary. In 1966 it was again started functioning as Hari Dass Saha Institute of Otolaryngology (E.N.T).
I really don’t know about the parameters to include a building in Heritage List or declare as Heritage. But I think this can be restored as a Heritage Building.
One day when I found that Building is demolished, I went there to take photographs. But when I pulled up my camera to take snaps, Some locals came to me and started inquiring about me. They didn’t allow me to take photographs. So after few days I took the photographs of the demolished site with my cell phone camera very quickly and vanished from spot.
